Software Development Manager, Alexa Endpoints

Our team is developing the software systems and customer experiences that power Alexa across Amazon's family of devices, enabling customers to interact with an AI-powered assistant that is more capable, more conversational, and more personal than ever before. Alexa Endpoints sits at the heart of this transformation, the layer that brings the next-generation Alexa to life on the devices customers use every day. We work directly at the intersection of AI technology and the Alexa app, building the systems that connect Alexa's intelligence to the hardware in customers' homes. More specifically, this role is on a team building the software and customer experiences that interface with the Alexa App to launch the next-generation of Alexa devices. The team owns critical systems that bridge Alexa's cloud and on-device capabilities, working closely with device, hardware, and software teams to deliver a seamless, world-class experience. This team is considered strategic and has visibility with leadership at the highest levels. The role offers a chance to build and launch device-powered AI experiences from the ground up, and work closely with an exceptional group of product, engineering, hardware, and science leaders to shape the future of Alexa. Key job responsibilities - Influence the strategic direction and vision of the organization through an understanding of the intersection of business/customer needs and how these intersect with technical capabilities and opportunities across Alexa's cloud and device software. - Provide technical leadership, vision and career guidance to team members. - Create a culture of pride in engineering and operational excellence and drive best practices within teams and across the organization. - Be strategic about defining and building an engineering culture that takes ownership and delivers high performance engineering solutions. - Work closely with technical (engineering and science) teams, hardware/device teams, design, and product/program management in an agile environment to deliver the best technical designs and approaches. - Anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make trade-offs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints — especially across the software/device boundary. A day in the life This Software Development Manager will: - Manage a highly talented team of SDEs on the Alexa Endpoints team, building scalable software systems and customer experiences that interface with the Alexa App to launch the next-generation of Alexa devices. The role involves interacting with product, program, engineering, science, hardware/device, and other Alexa and broader Amazon teams to clarify requirements and build execution plans for the team. - Define tactical actions to unblock the team and lay out a strategic quarter- or year-long vision for the team to improve its efficiency and deliver a better next-generation Alexa experience for Amazon's customers.
