About this role
If you are looking for an opportunity to build innovative cloud-native solutions, work with AI/ML technologies, and make a direct impact on customers migrating to AWS, this might be the role for you. Our team is responsible for the development of DMS Schema Conversion — the cloud-based service within AWS Database Migration Service that automatically assesses and converts database schemas, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and other database objects from commercial databases (Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, Sybase) to AWS-native targets such as Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora. DMS Schema Conversion is an instrument for automatic conversion of database metadata to a format compatible with the target database or service located in the AWS cloud. We are actively integrating Generative AI capabilities to automate time-intensive conversion tasks, reducing manual effort for customers and accelerating their migration journey. As a Software Development Engineer on our team, you will tackle challenging distributed systems problems, design and build features that serve customers at scale across 29+ AWS regions, and contribute to the next generation of AI-powered migration tooling. AWS DMS team is a part of AWS Utility Computing (UC) which provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services. Key job responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain cloud-based solutions that accelerate database migrations to AWS - Build and enhance schema conversion engines that transform database objects, stored procedures, and application code across multiple source/target conversion pairs - Integrate Generative AI capabilities to automate complex code conversion tasks that previously required manual intervention - Architect and implement scalable microservices deployed across 29+ AWS regions - Collaborate closely with database engineers, front-end engineers, and product managers to deliver high-quality features - Analyze existing database architectures to determine optimal migration and conversion strategies - Mentor other engineers, conduct design reviews, and contribute to engineering best practices - Research and identify new opportunities for AWS to innovate on behalf of our customers - Participate in on-call rotations and operational excellence initiatives A day in the life You will design, develop, and deliver features that enable customers to seamlessly migrate their database workloads to AWS. You will drive architectural decisions, solve complex problems with innovative approaches, and deliver with limited guidance while raising the technical bar for the entire team. You will work on complex challenges driving architectural decisions, code transformation, distributed systems, and Generative AI integration — all while operating at AWS scale.
