Job Description
Position Overview: ServiceNow is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Staff Software Engineer in Platform Persistence to solve complex problems in management of data lifecycles within the ServiceNow ecosystem. This pivotal role focuses on ensuring the efficient stewardship of data within our platform. The Platform Persistence team is at the forefront of some of the most impactful projects, offering visibility to the executive leadership. As part of this team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our platform’s data architecture and ensuring that data is stored, retrieved, and managed efficiently. In addition to traditional data management, this team will have a unique focus on telemetry and data visualization, making a substantial impact on how customer and platform data is utilized and presented.
Key Responsibilities
Own the design and architecture of data management solutions spanning multiple components, leveraging best practices on concurrency and memory utilization. Drive data management strategy decisions, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and security across the team’s roadmap. Lead cross-functional collaboration to define and implement data-related initiatives, influencing direction beyond your immediate team. Investigate and resolve the hardest data problems, including data loss detection & recovery, often owning the end-to-end solution. Champion data best practices, testing rigor (TDD, unit/integration test frameworks), and security standards across the organization. Monitor and optimize data performance at scale, diagnosing and fixing systemic issues. Stay current with the latest data storage and management technologies and bring recommendations to the team. Mentor and technically guide other engineers, raising the bar on code quality and design. Apply AI tools to solve the most difficult data and distributed systems problems at scale, with strong awareness of guardrails and process for AI-led software development; experience shipping MCP/A2A-enabled platform capabilities is a plus. Fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field. 10+ years of software development experience within a high-traffic, cloud-based environment. Proficiency in Java programming and strong expertise in data structures and algorithms. Proficiency with concurrency and parallel programming concepts. Deep knowledge of databases, data modeling, and data storage technologies. Strong relational database experience to handle large amount of data on relational systems. Strong understanding of cloud-based and distributed systems. Proven experience leading design/architecture discussions and mentoring engineering teams. Familiarity with ServiceNow platform is a plus. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. Familiar with various unit/integration test framework and TDD test practice to ensure code quality. Working knowledge of JavaScript is beneficial for cross-functional collaboration. Experience with AI-assisted development tools, guardrails, and process; MCP/A2A platform experience
