The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a talented Policy & Alliances Relationship Director (Military Spouse & Family Policy Advisor) on our Policy & Alliances team at USAA. This Director will be responsible for cultivating and managing key relationships with military community stakeholders, gathering and analyzing critical intelligence on military and veteran policy issues, serving as a subject matter expert on military spouse and military family issues, and developing and driving USAA’s related public policy priorities as part of Honor Through Action. We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position is based in Washington, DC, with occasional business travel required. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do

Develop and maintain strong relationships with key policy personnel within military service organizations (MSOs), veteran service organizations (VSOs), the Department of Defense (DoD), military services, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), interagency organizations, and other relevant entities; leverage these relationships to elevate and advance USAA’s military spouse and military family policy priorities, shape future policy priorities, and identify opportunities for public-private collaboration. Develop and maintain strong policy-focused relationships with active military spouses across services and ranks, working closely with USAA’s Military Affairs team. Serve as USAA’s subject matter expert on military spouse and military family public policy issues, translating lived experience, research, member insights, policy intelligence, and emerging trends into actionable policy and advocacy strategies. Lead military spouse and military family policy advocacy aligned to Honor Through Action, with a focus on meaningful careers, financial security, and overall well-being for military spouses and military families. Identify emerging military spouse and military family challenges to inform the evolution of USAA’s public policy agenda. Work closely with other internal stakeholders, including USAA’s Military Affairs, Corporate Impact, Communications & Public Affairs, Affinity, and Government Relations teams. Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned external stakeholders, responding to inquiries and facilitating communication with internal USAA teams. Actively gather intelligence on emerging issues, policy changes, and stakeholder perspectives relevant to USAA's military advocacy priorities. Analyze gathered intelligence and prepare concise reports and briefings for senior executives. Collaborate with Policy & Alliances  leadership to develop and implement relationship management plans for assigned stakeholders, outlining engagement strategies and desired outcomes. Support USAA's participation in military community events and conferences, representing the organization and building relationships with key stakeholders. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all stakeholder interactions. Assist in the preparation of presentations and other materials for internal and external audiences highlighting USAA's commitment to the military community.
