About this role
Overview
Microsoft Quantum unites a talented and diverse international team working to create the world’s first scalable quantum computing system. Our full-stack approach advances innovation across the quantum computing stack—from fundamental physics and hardware to software, applications, and cloud integration—with the aim of addressing problems beyond the reach of today’s computers. In this role, you will help shape transformative technology while collaborating with theoretical and experimental physicists, hardware designers, and software engineers around the world. Our Denmark lab is seeking a Quantum Test Engineer, cryo-mechanical and electrical, specializing in cryogenic and mechanical systems for 4K cryogenic device measurements. You will perform hands-on hardware work, maintain and troubleshoot cryogenic setups and instrumentation, and support 4K measurement activities. In this role, you will help deliver reliable 4K cryogenic measurement capabilities for the Microsoft Quantum program. You will build, maintain, and troubleshoot cryogenic hardware systems; integrate and validate cryogenic hardware and instrumentation; and support device measurements and smooth lab operations. Your hands-on experience with cryogenic systems, electronics, and hardware diagnostics will enable you to identify and resolve issues efficiently. Working closely with software, engineering, and supplier teams, you will improve procedures, documentation, inventory management, and safety practices. A practical, collaborative, and methodical approach will help you succeed in this rapidly evolving technology environment. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Responsibilities
Build and maintain and utilize 4K cryogenic hardware systems for quantum device screening and measurement Diagnose, track and resolve hardware issues in cryogenic setups (e.g., ground loops, wiring faults, or system-level failures) Integrate and validate hardware components such as wiring, connectors, filters, and measurement instrumentation for data acquisition. Assist in 4K measurement execution and collaborate with software and engineering teams to support robust and reliable lab operations Design and build AI agents/copilots to document procedures, hardware configurations, and maintenance activities for knowledge sharing and reproducibility. Manage and track hardware inventory: and coordinate procurement and restocking. Uphold and improve safety standards and best practices in the cryogenic lab environment Embody our culture and values.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications Master’s or higher degree in Physics, Electronic Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience) Hands-on experience with cryogenic systems for electronic characterization Demonstrated troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for hardware and measurement setups Proficiency in Python for measurement automation and Git for version control and documentation Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and communicate technical findings clearly Preferred Qualifications Experience with CAD (computer-aided design for circuits or hardware) for hardware layout or system integration Experience managing hardware inventory and procurement processes in a lab environment Familiarity with quantum measurement workflows Experience with AI and agentic frameworks. Additional Requirements Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following
