About this role
Company: Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. Job Area: Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Modem Technologies General Summary: Designs, implements, verifies, validates, and commercializes Wireless WAN (or cellular) modem air interface RAN (Radio access Network) technologies by working on Modem access stratum and RF SW design, optimizations & algorithms, modem HW, firmware and systems and with the RFFE team to define and guide the modem IP architecture, RFFE design, HW APIs, core systems algorithms and the right HW/SW/co-processor architecture . Works on the transceiver, and HW control and wireless Radio Access Stratum implementation of a multi-RAT (Radio Access Technology) from industry specifications (most notably 3GPP with LTE and 5GNR). Has experience in the WWAN L1/L2/L3 specifications and can efficiently implement the shared resources of a multi-RAT modem. Works closely with other functional groups to develop a cost effective, high quality and high capability modem IP that meets industry and customer requirements with high performance (e.g., throughput, latency, power consumption) and acceptable cost (e.g., silicon area, calibration complexity, code size). Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience. OR Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience. OR PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience. Preferred Qualifications: • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field. • 5+ years of experience with programming (e.g., C, C++, Python), computer architecture, or embedded systems. • 1+ year in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports (only applies to positions with direct reports). • 1+ year of applicable wireless, semiconductor and/or embedded software industry experience. • 6+ months of WWAN modem development specific experience. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Applies expert modem knowledge (e.g., RF, baseband, signal processing, computer architecture, communication protocols, VLSI) and develops or modifies methodology for one area of modem hardware, systems, or firmware to execute modem assignments; applies understanding of other teams or domains; leads technical conversation in design reviews and project meetings within a particular domain to meet design requirements; owns feature design and implementation. • Develops and reviews models, code, and/or simulations developed by others; identifies issues related to accuracy or reliability of design; weighs tradeoff against loosely defined requirements and identifies solutions; provides guidance to less experienced engineers; collaborates with cross-functional teams to design products that meet customer requirements and standards. • Develops test environments and comprehensive test plans to test/verify design for a module; works across teams to evaluate the impact of results and validate modem against specifications; advises less experienced team members and engineers. • Provides technical expertise to resolve moderately complex issues during implementation and commercialization independently across functional areas; supports cross-functional teams in modem bring-up and resolution of customer/field issues. • Writes clear and detailed technical documentation and feature descriptions for complex
