Position Purpose The Assistant Deli Manager assists in overseeing the daily operations of the Deli Department, ensuring exceptional customer service, food safety compliance, product quality, sales growth, and team development. This role supports department leadership by helping manage associates, maintaining merchandising standards, and ensuring operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Sales
Deliver outstanding customer service and promote a positive shopping experience. Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and catering inquiries. Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally. Support sales initiatives, promotions, and merchandising programs to drive department performance. Monitor department sales and contribute ideas to improve revenue and profitability. Operations & Merchandising
Assist with daily department operations including production, inventory management, ordering, and scheduling. Ensure product displays are attractive, fully stocked, and meet company merchandising standards. Monitor product quality, freshness, code dates, and inventory levels. Reduce shrink through proper rotation, handling, and inventory control practices. Maintain department cleanliness and organization at all times. Food Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations. Follow established procedures for food preparation, storage, labeling, and temperature monitoring. Maintain compliance with company policies, safety programs, and regulatory requirements. Assist in preparing for internal and external audits or inspections. Leadership & Team Development
Support recruiting, onboarding, and training of new associates. Provide coaching, direction, and ongoing development for department team members. Assist with scheduling and labor management to support operational needs. Help create a positive work environment focused on accountability, teamwork, and customer service. Serve as the department leader in the absence of the Deli Manager. Financial & Inventory Management
Assist with inventory counts and ordering processes. Monitor labor expenses, product costs, and shrink performance. Support achievement of departmental sales, profitability, and productivity goals. Review reports and assist with implementing action plans to improve results.
