About this role
Thanks for your interest in Oklo! We are searching for an Instrumentation & Controls Technician to join our team in Idaho Falls.
Position Description
Oklo is transforming the future of energy, and we are looking for an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Technician to support the design, fabrication, commissioning, and operation of test platforms used in advanced nuclear technology development.
The ideal candidate has broad, hands-on instrumentation experience and strong familiarity with the Emerson DeltaV distributed control system. Experience working under a nuclear quality assurance program, particularly ASME NQA-1, is preferred.
Specific responsibilities may include
• Instrumentation Installation and Integration: Install, terminate, configure, and verify sensors, transmitters, control valves, analyzers, data-acquisition equipment, and associated electrical and pneumatic systems.
• Control System Support: Configure, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, data-acquisition systems, human-machine interfaces, and test control hardware. Support development and modification of Emerson DeltaV configurations, graphics, alarms, and control strategies.
• Test Platform Fabrication: Support the fabrication and assembly of test platforms, including instrument panels, control cabinets, junction boxes, cable trays, conduit, tubing, wiring, and pneumatic systems.
• Test Operations: Support test readiness reviews, equipment startup, test execution, shutdown, and post-test activities. Monitor instrumentation and control-system performance during testing and respond to abnormal or unexpected conditions.
• Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and correct instrumentation, electrical, communications, controls, and data-acquisition issues. Perform preventive maintenance and recommend improvements that increase reliability, maintainability, and test efficiency.
• Procurement and Equipment Selection: Assist with the selection and procurement of instrumentation, controls equipment, calibration tools, electrical components, and test-platform materials. Coordinate with suppliers and verify that procured equipment meets technical and quality requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
• Associate degree, technical diploma, apprenticeship, military technical training, or equivalent practical experience in instrumentation, controls, electronics, electrical technology, industrial automation, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience with industrial instrumentation, control systems, test systems, process facilities, or similar equipment.
• Experience installing, calibrating, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial instrumentation.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, instrument data sheets, and equipment manuals.
• Familiarity with common industrial signals and protocols, including 4–20 mA, discrete I/O, HART, and Ethernet-based communications.
• Experience using calibration and diagnostic equipment such as digital multimeters, process calibrators, pressure calibrators, loop simulators, communicators, and electrical test equipment.
• Ability to lift, move, and position equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
Bonus Qualifications
• Strong familiarity with the Emerson DeltaV distributed control system, including system operation, hardware, I/O, configuration, graphics, alarms, control modules, and troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting thermal-hydraulic, mechanical, chemical, high-temperature, high-pressure, or liquid-metal
