We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and participate in E-Verify. About this Role FiberTel is looking for a Junior Estimator for our Sacramento, CA location. The Junior Estimator will work closely with senior estimators, project managers, and operations teams to assist with preparing cost estimates and bid proposals for Outside Plant (OSP) fiber optic construction projects.
Pay: $28-40/hr, DOE What You'll Do
Assist in the preparation of cost estimates for OSP fiber optic construction projects. Review and analyze construction drawings, specifications, permits, and project documents. Perform quantity takeoffs and track labor, equipment, and material costs. Support the development of bid packages, proposals, and subcontractor/vendor solicitations. Obtain pricing from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors. Assist with maintaining estimating databases and unit cost information. Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and project review meetings as needed. Collaborate with estimators, project managers, engineers, and field personnel to develop accurate project estimates. Help prepare change order pricing and budget updates for ongoing projects. Maintain organized project files and bid documentation. Learn applicable telecom construction methods, industry standards, and FiberTel estimating procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
What You'll Bring
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred. 0-3 years of experience in estimating, construction, telecom, utilities, or a related industry. Basic understanding of construction plans, specifications, and contract documents is preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills. Ability to learn estimating software and construction management systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and grow professionally. Experience with telecom, utility, or fiber optic construction is a plus.
What You'll Get Working Conditions: This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This position typically operates in an office environment with occasional time out in the field for site walks and similar tasks. This position my be exposed to different types of weather, loud noises and other construction hazards associated with the field.
