About this role
About the role
Muon seeks an Engineering Manager to lead our Frontend team. This team builds and ships features across our Mission Command platform, the consolidated frontend for mission operations, customer-facing tools, and internal workflows. The team works in a modern TypeScript and is establishing this platform as the canonical interface for managing constellations, scheduling contacts, and monitoring satellite operations at scale.
The Frontend team is critical to the overall growth and success of Muon's product offerings. As the number of products and services delivered to customers expands, the reliable, high-performance, and accessible experiences this team delivers directly determine how effectively satellite operators and customers can accomplish their work every day. This manager will inherit a team of engineers, and will be responsible for both scaling that team to meet current demand and evolving it into a product-minded frontend organization that establishes the unified web platform as the canonical interface for Muon's mission and operational needs.
This position is hybrid and requires working on-site in our San Jose, CA office three days per week.

• Define team goals, and technical roadmaps that align with companies priorities.
• Ensure reliability, performance, and accessibility of the experiences your team ships to satellite operators, customers, and internal users.
• Work with cross-functional stakeholders to translate mission needs into clear requirements and technical specifications.
• Drive engineering best practices including design reviews, code quality, testing, and observability.
• Manage team capacity, staffing, and growth, including hiring, coaching, and performance development.
• Promote a culture of technical ownership, continuous improvement, and pragmatic delivery.
• Build feedback loops with product and backend partners and end users, prioritize based on real friction, and hold clear ownership boundaries so the team stays focused on delivering high-quality, reliable user experiences.

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent industry experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience and 3+ years managing software engineering teams building and operating production systems.
• Direct experience managing a frontend, web, or product engineering team, including responsibility for hiring, performance management, coaching, and shaping team composition.
• Strong technical background in frontend/web development, with hands-on depth in strongly-typed frontend languages such as TypeScript or Flow and modern web application architecture.
• Demonstrated experience building and supporting complex web applications in production, with real reliability, performance, and accessibility requirements.
• Experience working in codebases with automated CI/CD pipelines and static analysis enforcement, and a focus on semantically correct, stable, clean code.
• Proficiency in code revision management within larger, fast-moving teams.
• Experience defining technical direction and driving execution through a team, including prioritization, roadmap ownership, and stakeholder alignment.
• Strong communication skills and comfort partnering with cross-functional stakeholders across engineering, product, and design.
