About this role
Overview This Senior Engineer, Product Technology role will act as a technology expert in product development for POM product family.
It is a part of the POM global technology team under the leadership of the Celanese POM Global Technology Manager. His/her main responsibility is to own and drive new product development projects with fast growing market areas such as medical, industry & consumer, automotive and more. He or she will also provide technology recommendations and guidance to other teams within Celanese such as the business management, stewardship, manufacturing, quality and others to achieve business goals and to make business decisions.
This role will be on-site in the Florence, Kentucky location. Responsibilities
Product Innovation: Formulate, test, and optimize to develop new product generating technology value (e.g. intellectual property, technical competitive advantage) and business value (e.g. revenue from new products in existing and/or new markets) Commercialization: Manage new product development (NPD) processes from lab-scale formulation through twin-screw compounding scale-up and customer qualification. Cross-functional Collaboration: Align technical objectives with business management, manufacturing, sales, quality, regulatory teams and more Technical Sales Support: Provide deep technical knowledge on material selection and part/mold design to OEMs, tiers, and molders. The individual will support of business-critical commercial product development, customer support and internal product management as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Minimum of 3 years of experience in thermoplastics manufacturing, product development, application development, product management, or technical service within engineering polymers with experience in Design of Experiments (DOE). Strong understanding of polymer formulation, characterization, analytical techniques, and material property testing methodologies. Experience with injection molding, compounding operations, and twin-screw extrusion technologies. Demonstrated ability to influence and align objectives across technical, commercial, and operational functions. Experience troubleshooting complex product, process, or application-related issues. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and customer-facing communication skills. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively in cross-functional environments. Team player and able to work in collaboration with a global technical team.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Technical expertise with POM polymerization, formulations, and applications. Knowledge of semi-crystalline thermoplastics, structure-property relationships, and performance optimization. Working knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and Six Sigma methodologies. Experience supporting product commercialization and customer qualification programs. Familiarity with sustainability initiatives, recycled content technologies, or circular economy applications within engineering polymers.
