WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE & TRAVEL This position will be located at General Services Building in Forest Park, GA (Metro Atlanta) This position will require a mix of both field and office work. A moderate amount of travel will be required (approximately 40%). Travel to vendors locations for audits and witness testing is required.
JOB SUMMARY
This position will provide daily leadership, guidance, and direction in the support and development of FACTS and GIS technologies for customers across Southern Company. This position will work within the Equipment Services group and serve as a technical resource for supporting design, maintenance, sparing strategy and problem resolution for customers across the Southern Company footprint supporting STATCOM and Gas Insulated Switchgear projects. Additional responsibilities include working with supply chain management and Equipment Services teammates and with vendors to ensure Southern Company’s requirements are met. Summary of Position Responsibilities: Ensure safety and quality are the top priorities Support VLC and traditional STATCOM projects including working with Transmission Planning, customers, and vendors to technical needs of our customers are met. Serve as a technical resource to the Project Management organization for project scoping and feasibility. Support projects by participating in design activities such as specifications, design reviews, performing factory audits, witness testing, and assisting customers in resolving technical issues. Support and work with all parties involved with projects. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required Professional Engineer License is preferred but not required Experience: Knowledge of STATCOMs and GIS technologies is preferred but not required Experience in transmission planning, maintenance, substation physical design or protection and controls is preferred but not required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Proven ability in applying safe work practices Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external clients Excellent oral and written communications skills Presentation skills to effectively communicate technical knowledge to others Extensive problem-solving skills Behavioral Attributes: Model Our Values: Safety First, Intentional Inclusion, Act with Integrity, and Superior Performance.
