A Day in the Life The Patient Care Systems (PCS) organisation develops and supports the software ecosystem that enables the monitoring, management, and protection of patients living with implantable cardiac devices. The Cloud & Engineering Platforms function provides the shared platforms, automation, infrastructure, security, data, and engineering enablement capabilities that support software development and operational excellence across PCS teams. This team focuses on improving reliability, scalability, developer productivity, and platform adoption through modern cloud and platform engineering practices. This role is at our Campus in Parkmore, Galway City, Ireland and is a hybrid working model. As a Platform Engineer I, you will contribute to the development, operation, and continuous improvement of shared engineering platforms and services used across the Patient Care Systems organisation. Working with software engineers, architects, security specialists, data professionals, and infrastructure teams, you will help build automation, improve platform reliability, and support engineering workflows that enable the delivery of connected healthcare solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
Contribute to the development and operation of shared engineering platforms and services. Build and maintain automation that improves developer productivity, operational efficiency, and platform reliability. Support software delivery, infrastructure, data, security, and engineering enablement initiatives. Participate in the design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support of platform capabilities. Troubleshoot technical issues and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions. Develop reusable tools, documentation, and operational runbooks that simplify engineering workflows. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and reliable platform solutions. Apply engineering practices related to cloud computing, automation, software development, security, and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline. Academic, internship, project, or professional experience with programming, scripting, automation, cloud technologies, or data systems. Demonstrated ability to analyse technical problems and develop effective solutions. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a technical team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cloud platforms and infrastructure services. Experience developing software using modern programming or scripting languages. Exposure to source control, automated testing, and continuous integration or continuous delivery practices. Experience with containerisation, infrastructure automation, databases, event streaming, or distributed systems. Exposure to observability, monitoring, security, quality, or developer enablement tooling.
