DER Interconnection Intern to support a core team of Engineers in evaluating and processing Distributed Energy Resources (DER) applications to interconnect to the Distribution System. DERs include solar, storage and hybrid systems. The team is primarily located in St Paul and Denver, but we have enterprise-wide responsibilities. Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Pre-application Data Requests Review completed applications to ensure that they meet minimum requirements Tracking down detailed technical information for a team of consultant engineer that support the internal team Support process documentation and guidelines or updating existing ones Help track applications through queue management systems Assist in drafting stakeholder facing materials e.g. FAQs, completeness review requirements, tariff documents This position is for a May 31, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.
Minimum Requirements
Current student, Junior or higher Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy Preferred Qualifications: Basic understanding of electrical circuits, coursework in power systems Familiarity or Fluency in the Microsoft Office Suite Strong written communication and organizational skills Interest in clean energy, grid modernization or utility regulation Prior Experience Energy Conversion Classes Introductory Power System classes As a leading combination electricity and natural gas energy company, Xcel Energy offers a comprehensive portfolio of energy-related products and services to 3.4 million electricity and 1.9 million natural gas customers across eight Western and Midwestern states.
