This position works in a primarily onsite capacity at Chula Vista, CA and will be part of the IAM Local 755. Work hours will be Monday - Friday, Day-Time Shift – 6:30AM – 3:00PM PST What You Will Do Plans the sequence of progressive operations by working from blueprints, sketches and routing. Determines sequence of operations to minimize amount of machining on CNC VMC Sets up VMC to perform any operation within its capability by positioning, aligning and securing work, improvising and adapting existing tooling and other machining aids Determines operations to be performed, dimensions and tolerances, cutting tools to be used to minimize required machining operations May perform cutter preset tasks as required Determines, sets and adjust feeds, speeds, depths, stops, and performs minor oiling as necessary May use pneumatic tools to perform basic surface grinding Grinds tools, drill bits and special purpose tools Sets up and operates conventional and numerically controlled machines, such as but not limited to drill press, manual lathe, manual milling machine and CNC VMC to completely and independently produce tooling, maintenance, developmental and production parts Lays out all lines necessary to ascertain machineability and subsequently all lines required to complete machining of production, tooling and developmental specifications Installs special bushings, inserts, etc. as required Performs identification Uses overhead crane in conjunction with the work described herein Maintain good shop practice and clean workstation/environment Uses experience and knowledge to assist other operators Qualifications You Must Have AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant machining experience OR HS diploma, GED and 6 years of relevant experience is required Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs) and specifications Experience with setup and programming of CNC VMC Experience working with aerospace grade alloys such as Inconel and Titanium Qualifications We Prefer Experience as a CNC setup machinist (ideally on VMC style machines) Tool and Die maker experience Proficient in manual G-Code programming and CAM software, certifications are a plus Experience with precision machining setup
