Title: Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Wharton, NJ Salary: $104,700 - $157,800 Schedule: 980 Schedule Focus: We are seeking a Mechanical Design Enginee r to support the design, development, fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning of a custom projectile assembly system at Picatinny Arsenal. This position will serve as a key engineering liaison between Winchester, DEVCOM, and other project stakeholders while supporting advanced manufacturing and equipment development initiatives. Mechanical Design Engineer Essential Job Functions: Lead the design, fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning of projectile assembly equipment and related manufacturing systems. Develop, modify, and maintain engineering drawings, layouts, technical specifications, and design documentation utilizing AutoCAD and other CAD software. Serve as an engineering liaison with DEVCOM, government personnel, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to support project execution and equipment implementation. Design and develop custom mechanical components, tooling, fixtures, and machinery for manufacturing applications. Support prototype development activities including assembly, troubleshooting, testing, validation, and design modifications. Coordinate engineering activities associated with equipment procurement, fabrication, installation, and startup. Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for equipment and process-related issues. Mechanical Design Engineer Essential Job Functions: Bachelor's degree* in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering. 5+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering, machine design, manufacturing equipment development, automation systems, prototype development, or related engineering environments. 2+ years of experience with machine controls and electrical design/troubleshooting. Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and basic knowledge of materials and ballistics preferred. Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or military standards preferred. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Some travel required: Less than 10%. Location-Specific Requirements: Must possess a valid US driver’s license. This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required. This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies.
