About this role
Books have been at the heart of Amazon since day one, and in Spain we're on a mission to inspire readers and make every book, in every format, easy to find and buy. As Retail Vendor Manager III, you'll own one of the largest vendor portfolios on the ES Books team and directly shape what millions of readers can discover. This is a high-ownership commercial role with real P&L impact. You'll be the primary owner for a set of strategic publishers, distributors, and trade partners, leading annual negotiations, driving the joint business agenda, and growing selection, availability, and profitability across print and digital. You'll also become the team's go-to expert on Print on Demand (POD) and long-tail vendor programs, with the chance to scale initiatives such as POD for exports well beyond Spain. Key job responsibilities Own the end-to-end commercial relationship for a portfolio of strategic publishers, trade distributors, and trade publishers representing a substantial share of ES Books revenue across print and digital. Propose annual and quarterly plans for your assigned portfolio, track implementation and actual performance against targets, and drive corrective actions where needed. Lead annual vendor negotiations (terms, funding, co-op) and manage the Joint Business Plan (JBP) cadence with your largest strategic publisher partner under a joint print + digital model. Build the best possible selection for our customers by developing vendor relationships: new listings, product availability, and prioritisation across vendors. Oversee the listing of new products in the catalogue and coordinate vendors' correct use of Amazon's systems and tools, including onboarding tail vendors through the Advantage and Vendor Self-Publishing (VSP) programs. In coordination with the team's In-Stock Managers, contribute to purchasing plans, track purchase volumes in line with sales growth, and monitor inventory health across stock levels and turns. Act as the team subject matter expert (SME) for Print on Demand (POD), including scaling POD for exports, and represent POD topics in cross-EU forums. Collaborate cross-functionally with the support functions that drive the business (finance, accounting, logistics, legal), continuously optimising processes to structurally improve performance. Support public policy and PR coordination on books-related matters, and represent your vendors at industry events such as book fairs. A day in the life Most days, you're the person your vendors call first. You'll spend your time steering a portfolio of publishers and distributors: reviewing how sales and stock are tracking, spotting what needs a nudge, and planning the next move with your partners. Some mornings you're deep in a negotiation or shaping a joint business plan; others you're clearing a catalogue issue with in-stock, finance, or legal. You're also our go-to on Print on Demand, so you'll help shape where that goes next, including exports. And a few times a year, you'll represent Amazon face to face with vendors at the big book fairs.
About the team
We're the ES Books Vendor Management team, a small, close group based in Madrid that looks after Amazon's book business in Spain. Books were one of the first things Amazon ever sold, and that heritage still shapes how we work: we genuinely care about reading and about getting the widest possible selection, in every format, into readers' hands. We partner with the publishers and distributors who bring Spanish books to life, from the biggest houses to the long tail of independent voices. It's a business with real commercial stakes and a cultural mission behind it, which makes the work matter.
