Utility Locator / Signal Technician

We are seeking an experienced Utility Locator / Signal Technician for current and future Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) locate requests around the Gainesville, GA area. This role is responsible for receiving and responding to locate requests, identifying and marking GDOT-owned underground infrastructure, and documenting field activities. This position will also support signal maintenance activities on an as needed basis. The successful candidate can work independently in the field using electronic locating equipment. This position will be based in Gainesville, GA and surrounding area.

Inspects, observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents, and plans. Confirms procedures are followed and material used conforms to specifications. Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform complicated mathematical calculations and measurements of completed work to date. Maintains Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contactor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified. Performs on-site material testing and produces as-constructed sketches as required. Performs other duties as assigned.

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and 6 years of construction related experience. All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements What You'll Bring: Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Good organizational skills and working effectively within time constraints Experience in reviewing Utility/811 locate requests and respond within required timeframes. Ability to electronic utility-locating equipment to physically locate underground facilities. Possess basic knowledge of standard traffic control procedures/guidelines relating to traffic control device installation and/or repair as set forth in the MUTCD. Possess basic knowledge of various traffic control devices and related installation and/or maintenance procedures. Ability to accurately locate and recognize pertinent information on basic highway/roadway plans, maps, electrical diagrams/schematics. Possess basic knowledge of Departmental policies and procedures.  Familiarity with basic computer applications. Ability to receive and respond to verbal communications in an appropriate manner.  Ability to work and communicate with supervisors and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner.  Possesses the eye-hand coordination necessary to perform electrical wiring and physical strength and agility necessary to lift heavy equipment and materials. Display a high level of commitment toward work and a high standard of ethical conduct. Ability to reason and select appropriate processes/guidelines to follow.  Commitment to providing quality customer service.  Ability to install, maintains and/or repair traffic control devices and related equipment What We Prefer: At least 4 years of verifiable GDOT CEI or utility locating experience. Experience operating electronic underground utility-locating equipment. Knowledge of underground conduit, fiber optic, communications and electrical infrastructure. Ability to distinguish utility marking colors and interpret field markings. Experience documenting field investigations and completed utility locates. Possess working knowledge of standard electrical codes/guidelines and basic electrical wiring.
