Join our colleagues in bringing our Mission to life every single day to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We provide our global teams with the resources needed to achieve individual career goals while helping to take science a step beyond by developing solutions for some of the world’s toughest challenges, like protecting the environment, making sure our food is safe or helping find cures for cancer. Summarized Purpose Join ThermoFisher Scientific as a Senior Systems Developer and help build the software platforms that support scientific workflows and customer outcomes. You will design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable Java applications and services used across enterprise and laboratory-facing environments. Working with product, QA, platform, and business partners, you will turn complex requirements into reliable cloud-ready solutions that help make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. This role is suited to a hands-on senior Java engineer with strong Spring Boot and microservices experience. You will contribute across the delivery lifecycle-from technical design and API development through automated testing, deployment, production support, and mentoring teammates. Education / Experience • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of experience and relevant formal academic/vocational qualification. • Minimum of 7-9 years of professional software or systems-development experience, with substantial hands-on Java development experience. • Experience delivering enterprise applications in an Agile, cross-functional environment. Major Job Responsibilities • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain production-grade Java and Spring Boot applications, REST APIs, and microservices. • Translate functional and non-functional requirements into clear technical designs, implementation plans, and maintainable code. • Build service integrations using well-designed, versioned APIs and resilient communication patterns. • Develop data-access components and optimize SQL for relational databases, including MySQL and Oracle. • Partner with architects and engineering teams on scalable microservices architecture, service boundaries, observability, and performance. • Produce automated unit, integration, and API tests; investigate defects; and improve code quality, test coverage, and application reliability. • Participate in peer reviews, technical design discussions, release planning, and continuous improvement activities. • Use Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Jira to plan, build, test, release, and trace work through the software-development lifecycle. • Apply secure coding practices, including authentication/authorization, input validation, secrets management, and dependency/security remediation. • Create and maintain technical documentation for APIs, designs, operational procedures, and support handoffs. • Collaborate effectively with product owners, QA, DevOps, and global engineering teams; communicate risks, decisions, and progress clearly. • Guide and support less-experienced developers through code reviews, technical coaching, and knowledge sharing. • Participate in an on-call support rotation, as needed, to diagnose and resolve production issues. Must-Have Skills • Strong, hands-on proficiency in Java and Spring/Spring Boot for enterprise application and service development. • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, documenting, and consuming RESTful Web APIs. • Strong understanding of microservices architecture, distributed-system fundamentals, and API integration
