Role

Overview In this field-based role, you will respond to service calls, troubleshoot complex fire alarm and life safety systems, and deliver timely repairs that help customers keep their facilities safe, efficient, and operational. You will serve as a trusted advisor at the point of service, combining technical expertise, clear communication, and strong customer focus to resolve issues and identify solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center and review the reported equipment or system malfunction. Contact customer representatives to confirm the problem and assess the work required. Diagnose issues and perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and related building system products at customer sites. Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and use technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, bulletins, and modification notices to repair equipment. Service, troubleshoot, and install Fire & Life Safety systems, including SimplexGrinnell. Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, schematics, software/systems, programs, and operational product manuals. Communicate consistently with district staff and customers to support a high level of customer satisfaction. Complete service acknowledgements with proper coding using smart phones and laptop computers. Obtain customer signature upon completed service call assignment. Participate in scheduled on-call rotation and respond to customer needs as required. Help train or mentor others on the service team. Provide recommendations and solutions that improve facility performance and support upselling opportunities, including quotes when needed. Perform other duties as assigned. How You Will Do It Take ownership of each service outcome by working safely, accurately, and with integrity on every call. Stay close to the work by listening carefully to the customer, diagnosing quickly, and removing obstacles that delay resolution. Use clear documentation, candor, and problem-solving to improve every day and strengthen the quality of your service. Collaborate with district staff, service resources, and customers as one team to deliver reliable results. Troubleshoot and repair installed systems, including panel repair and reprogramming, device replacement or repair, low-voltage circuit trouble resolution, and system testing. Organize and effectively use technical resources, information, material, and support to complete assigned tasks efficiently. Program fire alarm, security, and access control system panels as part of the service process. Use strong written and verbal communication skills to keep work moving and ensure the customer understands the solution. Complete and submit task-related, activity, productivity, and other required documentation in a timely manner. Be available for on-call and occasional after-hours work based on customer need. Provide practical recommendations and quotes that support facility efficiency and solution delivery.

Qualifications

5+ years of documented experience in low voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems, Access Control, Nurse Call, and Paging systems. Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
