About this role
Our advanced aerospace hardware initiative is deploying advanced Google compute (TPUs) and multi-sensor hardware infrastructure into orbital and extreme aerospace environments. This interdisciplinary team is engaged in rapid experimentation, prototyping, and detailed studies of physical limits to develop space-ready hardware architectures. As the Senior Electrical Engineering Manager, you will build, scale, and lead the founding Electrical Engineering team for our advanced aerospace hardware initiative. You will be instrumental in guiding the modification, design, development, and testing of space-ready Google Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) to enable machine learning workloads in novel, non-data center environments. The successful candidate enjoys the challenge of defining a complete electrical architecture and making systems operate in extreme environments often doing things they weren’t originally designed to do and leveraging those learnings to design better, more robust solutions. This role may involve working with technical information that is export-controlled. Non-U.S. persons would require an export license to do so (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents/green card holders, and individuals granted refugee or asylee status are considered 'U.S. persons' under applicable law). This notice is provided solely for export control compliance purposes. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $236000 - $329000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits Learn more about benefits at Google .
Define the end-to-end electrical system architecture, high-speed digital architecture, and power delivery networks for next-generation compute payloads. Manage, build, and mentor an electrical engineering team responsible for board design, manufacturing, and testing. Partner with mechanical, thermal, silicon, and software engineering teams to define hardware/software interfaces and ensure seamless system integration. Manage external aerospace manufacturing partners, printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication houses, and assembly vendors to execute space-ready designs. Drive electrical bring-up, signal integrity validation, and comprehensive environmental testing, including thermal-vac and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)/EMC.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 8 years of experience in high-speed digital board design, schematic capture, PCB layout, and lab bring-up. 5 years of experience in technical leadership and managing electrical engineering teams. Preferred qualifications: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Experience with space or satellite avionics, radiation-tolerant component selection, or flight hardware qualification. Experience integrating custom application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), or high-power field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Experience with signal integrity and power integrity simulation tools, and high-speed test equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. Experience managing external printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) fabrication and assembly vendors.
