Job Description
The Independent Risk Review and Assessment (IRRA) organization in Risk Management & Compliance (RM&C) serves as U.S. Bank’s independent second line of defense, providing objective assessments of the effectiveness of the Bank’s Risk Management framework across credit, compliance, and operational risks. The Independent Assessment and Modernization team within the IRRA Program Office is seeking an Independent Assessment Lead Analyst to lead and execute complex, ad hoc independent evaluations that compare current Bank practices to regulatory guidance, including guidance received through non-traditional channels. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy and is accountable for assessment quality, regulatory interpretation, and contribution to IRRA modernization initiatives. The Lead Analyst partners closely with IRRA leadership and stakeholders while providing guidance to Analysts. Key Responsibilities : Lead independent assessments evaluating Bank practices against regulatory expectations, supervisory communications, and emerging guidance. Interpret complex and evolving regulatory guidance, including non-traditional sources, and translate it into clear assessment criteria. Design assessment scope, testing approaches, and documentation aligned to IRRA standards and regulatory expectations. Identify control, governance, and risk management gaps; lead root cause analysis and develop independent assessment insights. Provide guidance, coaching, and feedback to Analysts, ensuring consistency and adherence to IRRA standards. Manage multiple assessments and modernization initiatives simultaneously, prioritizing work based on evolving organizational goals and risk priorities with limited direction. Contribute to operational excellence and modernization efforts that improve review efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness. Basic Qualifications - Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience - Typically more than six years of relevant professional experience in risk management, compliance, audit, or related disciplines. Preferred Skills/Experience - Experience leading or significantly contributing to independent assessment, including process and/or control testing, and project management. - Strong understanding of financial services, applicable laws and regulations, and regulatory trends. - Advanced knowledge of business line operations, products, systems, and associated risks. - Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance while collaborating effectively across teams. - Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities. - Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills. - Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel. - Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CRCM, CAMS, CIA) preferred.
