Department Overview Motorola Solutions is a world leader in the field of professional mobile communications systems with an impressive heritage of technological innovations and a global base of installed systems. This opening is in Motorola Solutions’ Systems Engineering group, and is focused on the market in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The group's main business is the design and implementation of mission-critical digital mobile communication systems for Government & Public Safety Communications customers. Many of our systems are designed around the APCO 25 communications standard. With the growth of data services many of our customer’s mobile wireless networks are being enhanced with LTE infrastructure for applications such as live mobile video transmission supplementing our traditional core voice and narrowband data networks. Job Description
NOTE: This position will require 25 to 50% Travel The Systems Engineer will work with a field team of Project Management, Systems Engineers, System Technologists, Construction Managers, and Customer Service Managers, and will be responsible for leading technical aspects of the assigned project until system acceptance. This involves: Design and implementation of the radio network including infrastructure, subscribers, mobile backhaul and WAN and CEN networks. High level of customer and consultant interaction involving customer design reviews, customer witnessed staging and acceptance testing events, coverage acceptance testing, live system upgrades, and troubleshooting efforts. System buildout, configuration and acceptance testing in both lab staging and field environments Radio coverage testing, frequency analysis and interference mitigation Radio system licensing (FCC/Industry) Preparation of system fleet map, encryption and radio programming templates Complete system documentation Live system cutovers and upgrades Additional Skills/Knowledge: Radio Frequency Engineering principles Land / Mobile Radio Engineering principles RFDS principles to include antenna and cable selection, transmit combiners, receive multi-couplers, and lightning protection systems. P25 Land Mobile Radio terminology and two-way subscriber radio provisioning methods. Experience with Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture is a plus. Servers and related systems to include: VMware ESXI, Linux, and Microsoft operating systems.
