We’re looking for a seasoned Lead Java Engineer who can drive the design, development, optimization, and long-term reliability of large-scale applications. You’ll be responsible for shaping system architecture, ensuring efficient and accurate data processing, and guiding technical direction across the stack. This role offers the chance to work with modern technologies, including Java, UI5, and related tooling, in a fast-moving engineering environment. What you'll bring :
Operate within the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), leveraging its multi-cloud foundation to deliver solutions that run across major public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP, Alibaba Cloud) and private environments. Collaborate closely with product teams to design and implement new features, while supporting the BTP Fabric team in deploying and operating them on the platform. Contribute directly to building high-quality, reusable, and scalable cloud services, and actively share technical expertise across the team. Drive the design and development of cloud-based capabilities and enhancements for products and solutions. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, enforcing strong engineering standards across Java development and DevOps practices. LLM integration and basic RAG workflows, including prompt management and response validation, are part of your core work Evaluation and benchmarking frameworks to measure AI system quality, reliability, and performance are things you'll build and own
What you'll build
Architected and scaled high-volume Java microservices, ensuring high availability, resilience, and throughput for enterprise-scale data platforms. Extensive hands-on experience designing and building Java-based microservices using Spring Boot, including developing robust REST APIs, implementing service orchestration patterns, and delivering containerized services for production environments. Proficient in Java-based DevOps practices, using tools like Jenkins (Java-based CI), Git, Docker, and Kubernetes to enable scalable CI/CD pipelines. Strong troubleshooting and debugging capabilities in Java, especially in distributed systems involving asynchronous messaging and parallel computation Experience with any Front-end technologies - UI5, React, Angular or any UI framework is an added advantage. Experience with AI/LLM workflows, including prompt design, basic RAG patterns, and integrating AI services into applications Experience designing evaluation frameworks for AI systems, validating model behavior, and applying agentic engineering patterns is critical. Expertise in Unit Testing and TDD/BDD methodologies. Proficiency in OOAD, Design Patterns and anti-patterns. Proficiency in SaaS, multi-tenancy, Splunk and any public cloud offering Working knowledge of Microservices, Domain Driven Design and DevOps is an added advantage. Experience with MCP, agent/tooling frameworks, or secure model integrations is a plus. Strong knowledge of SQL and Java JDBC for querying structured data and integrating with relational databases. Experience mentoring engineers in Java best practices, clean code, object-oriented design, and performance optimization for enterprise data solutions. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with
