Our ideal candidate is a creative who loves storytelling and has the ability to define and execute the strategy for the Benelux scripted slate. You will lead the Benelux scripted team, across both series and film, to identify, shape, and deliver commercially successful shows that have a broad appeal, bring joy, and help grow our member base. You will have a strong sense of editorial judgment, a local sensibility of what can be impactful in the Netherlands and Belgium, and the ability to guide a project from pitch/idea to production, to post-production and launch. You will have a wide network of key creative players/stakeholders in the Benelux market/industry including Writers, Producers, Directors, Editors and On-screen talent, and also understand deal terms and rights.
You will use your creative instincts and have the ability to support these instincts with data, to then make informed decisions in collaboration with strategic and cross-functional partners. You take initiative, adapt to changing circumstances, and can make timely, well‑reasoned decisions. This role involves managing multiple projects at varying stages of development, production, post-production and launch prep, working to tight timelines, and requires excellent judgment and initiative. You should be judicious, have keen attention to creative detail with excellent problem-solving skills. Above all, you demonstrate sound judgment, integrity, accountability, and a focus on high-quality work and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
The Director, Series and Film, Benelux is a key team member, reporting to the VP of Content, Benelux. The Director will play a critical role in leading the Scripted team to develop creatively excellent shows and build a steady programming pipeline in line with the needs of the Benelux slate, by running a development slate and working with other cross-functional colleagues on greenlit projects.
* Lead, coach, and develop our Benelux scripted team with excellent communication and people management skills.
* Build a well-balanced scripted slate that compliments the wider Benelux content slate. As a functional expert, you will make informed decisions on the direction of our slate using both creative instincts and data to inform decisions.
* As well as being the creative leader of the scripted team, also acting as the lead creative on behalf of Netflix on key titles.
* Evaluating ideas and giving creative insights and feedback on projects at all stages of development and production with the aim of delivering creatively excellent shows that will bring joy to our members.
* Actively search for new ideas, including but not limited to leveraging existing relationships and building new relationships with Producers, Production Companies, and Talent.
* Be an effective collaborator to our producing partners, using previous experience in producing creative excellent shows in areas such as talent relations.
* Working collaboratively with Netflix teams including but not limited to Business and Legal Affairs, FP&A, CPS&O, Production, Finance, and Marketing
* Knowledge-share across other EMEA teams on creative wins, learning and best practices.
