Technology Director

About this role: Wells Fargo is seeking a Technology Director . This role will lead the modernization and transformation of critical Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) technology platforms within Enterprise Functions Technology (EFT). This leader will oversee multiple engineering teams responsible for delivering modern, AI-enabled platforms that support regulatory, risk management, testing, monitoring, and audit capabilities across the enterprise. The role will drive transformation from legacy and vendor-centric solutions to strategic platforms built on common technologies, reusable services, shared data capabilities, and intelligent automation. The successful candidate will combine strong technology leadership, organizational influence, delivery excellence, and modern engineering expertise to accelerate the adoption of cloud-native platforms, Agentic AI solutions, and enterprise-wide engineering standards. In this role, you will: Lead engineering teams responsible for the modernization of GRC platforms. Deliver strategic technology roadmaps aligned with enterprise risk, compliance, and regulatory priorities. Drive adoption of a common technology strategy centered on React, Java-based microservices, shared data capabilities, and Python-based AI services. Partner with architecture, product, risk, audit, compliance, and business leaders to define and execute multi-year modernization initiatives. Lead the development of reusable platform capabilities, shared services, common data assets, and enterprise integration frameworks. Champion the adoption of AI-enabled capabilities including Agentic AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), workflow automation, and knowledge-centric solutions. Ensure solutions meet enterprise standards for security, resiliency, scalability, auditability, data governance, and operational excellence. Establish engineering best practices across software development, testing, DevSecOps, observability, and platform operations. Manage technology budgets, resource planning, vendor engagement, and execution priorities. Develop high-performing engineering organizations through recruitment, mentoring, coaching, and succession planning. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence. Collaborate and influence senior leaders across technology, risk, compliance, audit, and operations functions. Manage a team of engineering managers and engineering leads Focus on delivering commitments aligned to enterprise strategic priorities Build support for strategies with business and technology leaders Guide development of actionable roadmaps and plans Identify opportunities and strategies for continuous improvement of software engineering practices Provide oversight to software craftsmanship, security, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions developed by the teams or third party providers Identify financial management and strategic resourcing Set risk management guidelines and partner with stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives Develop strategies for hiring engineering talent Lead implementation of projects and encourage engineering innovation Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including more experienced managers Lead team to achieve objectives Interface with external agencies, regulatory bodies or industry forums Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Technology Strategic Leadership Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy Required Qualifications: 10+ years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education 4+ years of management or leadership experience 10+ years of  experience leading software engineering organizations. Proven experience delivering large-scale technology modernization or platform transformation programs.
