Our team is looking for a Software Development Engineer II for our Tax and Regulatory Platforms. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to build and support the Global Tax Platform and Unified Regulatory Platform for the travel industry. These highly resilient systems must scale to process Expedia Group's entire business transactions in real time, while adapting to ever-changing regulations across global markets. They power complete transaction lifecycles from shopping through booking, invoicing, accounting, filing, reporting, and beyond with financial-grade accuracy and robust audit trails. This is an opportunity to take a pivotal role in building the travel industry's premier commerce and financial platforms. You will design and implement APIs, data streams, real-time compute, and data lake storage at scale pushing the boundaries of cloud technologies including Kafka, Kubernetes, gRPC, Apache Spark, and Flink. In this role, you will: Core Engineering Work in small, agile teams to design, develop, test, and maintain scalable and resilient services across the Tax and Regulatory Platform Build and operate cloud-native streaming data, real-time processing, and data lake platforms at scale using Kafka, Kubernetes, Apache Spark, and Flink Ensure all software meets the highest standards of performance, security, scalability, and financial-grade accuracy Review pull requests and lead by example on code quality refactoring for readability, extensibility, and testability Leverage CI/CD techniques and tools to maximise delivery speed, reliability, and operational confidence Embrace change always open to replacing what you built yesterday with something better today Support ever-changing global regulatory requirements by building adaptable, configurable platform components that reduce time-to-compliance in new markets Drive observability and reliability across services using DataDog, Splunk, or equivalent tooling ensuring proactive detection and resolution of issues Share knowledge, mentor peers, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning including AI fluency across the engineering team AI & Intelligent Systems Design and integrate AI-powered capabilities into regulatory and financial workflows including intelligent document processing, automated compliance checks, and anomaly detection Build and maintain RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines connecting internal knowledge sources, regulatory datasets, and transaction data to LLM-powered services for accurate, context-aware outputs Integrate and manage model inference endpoints into production services, ensuring low latency, high availability, and cost-efficient serving at scale Experiment with and adopt AI developer tooling leveraging tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude to accelerate engineering velocity across the team Apply
