About this role
Careers that change lives start here. Medtronic is a global leader in healthcare technology with a Mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. Our 95,000 employees work across more than 150 countries to put patients first — developing innovative medical technologies that improve the lives of 72+ million patients each year. Your unique talents will help shape the future of healthcare while building a career grounded in purpose, growth, and impact. A Day in the Life The Physiological Sensing R&D team develops technologies that measure and interpret physiological signals to improve patient outcomes. Our portfolio includes anesthesia and depth-of-sedation monitoring, respiratory monitoring, pulse oximetry, regional oximetry, EEG-based devices, and clinical decision-support solutions. We are seeking a hands-on Senior Electronics Hardware Engineer to develop electronic hardware for medical devices and physiological monitoring products. You will take technical ownership of complex electronics across the full product lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through circuit design, PCB layout, prototype bring-up, verification, manufacturing release, and lifecycle support. This is an end-to-end hardware development role requiring the ability to personally deliver safe, reliable, testable, and manufacturable PCB assemblies while providing technical leadership within a multidisciplinary team.
Primary Responsibilities
Design analog, digital, power, sensor-interface, and mixed-signal electronics for medical products and physiological monitoring systems. Own complete PCB and PCBA development, including requirements, schematic capture, component selection, PCB layout, design review, prototype bring-up, verification, manufacturing release, and lifecycle support. Personally perform multilayer PCB stack-up definition, component placement, routing, grounding, shielding, power distribution, electrical isolation, controlled-impedance design, and thermal implementation. Perform circuit simulation, tolerance and worst-case analysis, component derating, and design-margin assessment to demonstrate design robustness. Apply signal-integrity, power-integrity, EMC, ESD, electrical-safety, DFM, DFA, and DFT principles to achieve reliable, manufacturable, and testable designs. Create and verify ECAD libraries, bills of materials, fabrication and assembly drawings, and complete manufacturing-output packages. Lead prototype bring-up, electrical characterization, systematic debugging, failure analysis, and root-cause investigation using appropriate laboratory equipment. Develop hardware test cases, fixtures, and automated laboratory tests using Python and/or LabVIEW, including instrument control, data acquisition, analysis, and reporting. Develop verification protocols, acceptance criteria, and test reports traceable to hardware requirements and risk controls. Develop medical-device electronics in accordance with applicable IEC 60601 requirements, particularly IEC 60601-1 for basic safety and essential performance and IEC 60601-1-2 for electromagnetic compatibility. Contribute to design controls, requirements traceability, design FMEA, fault analysis, risk-control implementation, and risk-control verification. Support prototype builds, manufacturing transfer, production testing, yield improvement, component obsolescence, second-source qualification, and controlled design changes. Collaborate with systems, software, algorithms, mechanical, test, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, and sourcing teams to resolve complex product-development challenges. Lead technical reviews, communicate evidence-based recommendations, drive design improvements, and mentor less-experienced engineers.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, with typically 5 or more years of relevant product-development experience. Strong hands-on experience in analog, digital,
