Overview

Employee will learn to perform and assist other linemen in the construction, repair and maintenance of electric distribution and transmission lines , learn to inspect, repair, maintain, rebuild, construct, and install the equipment and apparatus associated with the Power Quality Section facilities.

Responsibilities

The normal duties may include but are not limited to: Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices. Employee acting in conjunction with supervision or individually as directed by supervision will assist and/or direct the training of other employees in the correct operating procedures necessary to fully satisfy the classification duties of Line Technician "C" and all lower classifications within the subject line of progression or other duties with which the employee is familiar. Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in the training activities. Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification. Demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by Louisville Gas and Electric to assure correct classification of employees.  Employee will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury. Employee will perform duties of lower or higher classifications that are incidental to the job and are within his/her capabilities including those needed for the purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classifications. Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.   Employee will report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed. Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment. Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude. Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required.   SPECIFIC DUTIES Duties which may include, but are not limited to: Employee will perform all duties of a Groundperson. Employee will learn to climb all poles, towers,  ladders  and other structures. Employee will learn the proper use of, and care for, tools, tackle and other line construction equipment.   Employee will learn to install, remove and maintain cross arms, braces, pins, insulators, secondary racks, brackets, guys, grounds, ground wire and associated line hardware. Employee will learn to perform duties from aerial lifts, derricks, poles, towers and other elevated structures. Employee will assist senior linemen in the installation, removal and maintenance of lightning arrestors, cutouts, switches, re-closer and other protective and sectionalizing devices.
