About this Role North Houston Pole Line is seeking an experienced Traveling Mechanic to support the maintenance and repair of company vehicles, trucks, trailers, and specialized heavy equipment at project locations throughout the company’s operating footprint. This position will travel to field locations to diagnose equipment issues, complete preventative maintenance, and perform repairs that help keep crews productive and equipment operating safely.
North Houston Pole Line supports transmission, distribution, substation, underground, and emergency-restoration operations and maintains specialized equipment used throughout utility construction. The Traveling Mechanic must be comfortable working independently in field environments, responding to changing priorities, and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and related equipment issues away from the main shop. What You'll Do
Diagnose, service, and repair trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and specialized utility construction equipment. Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and safety checks to reduce equipment downtime. Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, brake, engine, and drivetrain systems. Travel to jobsites to perform scheduled maintenance and emergency field repairs. Inspect equipment for damage, excessive wear, or additional repairs needed and communicate findings. Complete required service records, work orders, and DOT-related repair documentation. Perform minor welding, fabrication, and component replacement as needed. Follow NHPL, DOT, OSHA, and manufacturer safety requirements while servicing and operating equipment.
What You'll Bring
High school diploma or GED preferred. 3+ years of experience repairing heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, or similar fleet assets. Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, and drivetrain components. Ability to independently diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs. Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or required based on assigned equipment. Ability and willingness to travel extensively to project locations and respond to field repair needs. Welding/fabrication experience and knowledge of DOT inspection requirements preferred. Ability to lift up to approximately 60 pounds and
