Job Description

He/she will execute product communications, policy communications, and patient advocacy supporting BMS's Hematology and cell-therapy growth and priorities in Japan (Breyanzi, Abecma, arlo-cel, CellMods – iberdomide, mezigdomide, golcadomide – and Reblozyl). The position plays a critical role in positioning BMS as an innovative, trusted, and patient-centric partner for patients, HCPs, and policymakers. The successful candidate will be an effective, empathetic communicator with strong strategic and execution capabilities and – uniquely for this role – experience shaping policy and public narrative on healthcare, pricing, and patient access for innovation. Fluency in Japanese and English and the ability to translate scientific and policy concepts into advocacy and TA/product communications are essential.

Main Responsibilities

Lead communications and patient advocacy for BMS's Hematology/cell-therapy business, and milestone communications for growth and next-wave products, strategically designed to advance brand, policy, and enterprise goals. Lead Policy Communications for cell therapy (including Next Gen), shaping the external narrative through media, digital channels, and PAG partnerships, working closely with Government Affairs (GA) and Global counterparts. Strategize and manage patient advocacy programs with named Hematology PAGs, including Group NEXUS Japan, the National Cancer Association, and Cancer Net Japan – seizing patient needs and tailor-making impactful projects for mutual benefit. Also liaise with R&D on clinical trial enrollment support. Fill gaps in disease/treatment awareness among patients, their families, and society, and empower patients to choose the best solution for them, enhancing shared decision-making. Manage product launches and pipeline-related science communications in line with brand plans. Contribute to enterprise communications relating to Japan activities as needed; handle other duties as assigned.   Required Skills and Qualifications Strong written and oral communication skills in Japanese and English. Demonstrated experience in policy communications / public affairs – shaping narrative and message delivery with policymakers, payers, and media. Proven track record building media relationships and driving public-awareness/thought-leadership visibility for the company or brand. Proactivity and a high level of personal accountability. Strong ability to deliver in a timely manner under pressure and juggle multiple tasks. Strong ability to partner with internal and external stakeholders, including patient advocacy groups and policy stakeholders. Experience in the healthcare industry or other relevant sectors required – either in agency or in-house setting. Strong business acumen and learning agility. AI and Digital platform skill.
