Job Overview The Assistant, Product Development supports the Development team in building and managing Macy’s Private Brand program by executing assortment strategies. The team plays a crucial role in realizing the vision of Macy’s Private Brands and collaborates closely with Sourcing to achieve desired product costs and Brand/Category IMU targets. The Assistant works closely with design, buying, and sourcing teams to translate design intent into approved samples that meet the brand’s aesthetic, style, and fit requirements within cost and margin targets. Key responsibilities include driving the assortment strategy and actively participating in milestone meetings. What You Will Do
Create and update initial styles within the Product Lifecycle Management system throughout the season. Manage and track all meeting sample requests within the assigned area. Review sample execution with the Development Associate. Build line lists in the Order Management System. Finalize order details with the Associate/Product Lead and initiate the Purchase Agreement. Enter all assortment purchase orders, managing and tracking them throughout the season. Collaborate with the Outbound Supply Operations Merchant to capture production-related activities and any purchase order changes. Work with the Product Associate to update the Initial Markup Roll-Up throughout the season. Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities. Support preparation for Mid-Point/Pre-Line Review, Line Review, and Post-Buy Recap meetings.
Skills You Will Need Communication and Collaboration : Strong ability to communicate clearly and concisely, ensuring all stakeholders are informed. Skilled in working closely with cross-functional teams including design, buying, and sourcing. Organization and Detail Orientation : Excellent attention to detail, especially when managing sample tracking, purchase orders, and system updates, to maintain accuracy and quality. Project Planning and Execution : Ability to develop and follow through on assortment strategies, coordinating multiple tasks efficiently to support seasonal goals and product timelines. Problem Solving and Issue Resolution : Skilled in identifying potential issues and addressing them proactively, with a solution-oriented mindset. Technical Proficiency : Competency in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Order Management Systems (OMS) for efficient product tracking and documentation. Analytical and Financial Acumen : Understanding of Initial Markup (IMU) targets and cost management, ensuring product alignment with budgetary and margin requirements. Adaptability and Initiative : Responsive to shifting priorities and able to manage workload independently, demonstrating initiative in meeting team objectives. Who You Are
Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. Prior experience in merchandising or product development preferred. Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision. Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
