Work Classification: Hybrid: The successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum, or as dictated by the business.
The Role
We are seeking motivated candidates for a Battery State Estimation Calibration Engineer position in GM's Battery System Controls Calibration group at the Milford Proving Ground. The position involves significant in-vehicle and lab work, along with related analytical and performance verification activities. Calibration engineers engage in cross-functional teams, are expected to handle multiple projects/priorities, and frequently need to balance planned and unplanned work. A typical week includes in-vehicle calibration & testing, lab/bench/analytical activities, and collaboration with algorithm/software and hardware engineers. Calibration engineers participate in offsite development trips as well as onsite program team vehicle evaluations. In GM’s Battery System Controls group, calibration engineers at the Milford Proving Ground are located in a unique facility dedicated to hybrid/EV development. In addition, the role will require occasional travel to other GM sites, test facilities, plants, or joint‑venture locations, including up to one or two days a week at the GM Battery System Lab in Warren, MI.
What You'll Do
Develop and optimize calibrations to meet performance and timing requirements utilizing Calibration Standard Work Conduct calibration reviews to ensure high quality calibrations Organize, plan, and coordinate calibration activities with Lead Calibrator and Diagnostic Strategist Support identification of requirements for resources to develop calibrations Diagnose and correct vehicle, system, and controls deficiencies Support resolution of vehicle, plant, durability/dyno, or customer issues Utilize analytical tools to develop & verify calibrations Develop, use, and update calibration procedures supporting increased virtualization in the calibration development process Participate in controls groups and support development of algorithms Participate in development trips and related test activities Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications): BS Engineering Degree or equivalent discipline 2+ years of post-graduation engineering experience Independent worker, requiring little direction highly capable working in a team environment Excellent planner and complex problem solver High level of oral and written communication skills Experience with data acquisition and analysis Knowledge of and passion for electrification propulsion system architectures What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) Masters Degree Engineering Degree or equivalent discipline 5+ years of post-graduation engineering experience Controls and/or calibration experience Experience with Battery Management Systems or Battery State Estimation Experience with tools commonly used in calibration: INCA, Vehicle Spy, CRETA, MDA, Matlab/Simulink Key Behaviors: Drive for Results Dealing with ambiguity Prioritization and decision-making skills Action-oriented Exceptional communication and presentation skills Customer-focused Integrity and Trust Problem Solving Conflict management 



This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.
