Overview
Job Purpose The Credit Underwriter is responsible for reviewing residential mortgage loan packages to ensure they contain complete documentation and meet program guidelines, comparing origination credit decisions against current credit analysis and addressing any variances. The position involves identifying and documenting exceptions, deviations, fraud risks, and data discrepancies, as well as reviewing appraisals and alternative valuation products for accuracy and conformity to client requirements.
Responsibilities
Ensure residential mortgage loan packages contain all necessary documentation required to formulate a complete assessment. Assess all elements of the origination credit decision to the current credit analysis and address any variances. Confirm that all loan reviews meet the required program guidelines and cite any deviations or exceptions. Update all exceptions with the pertinent facts supporting the finding(s). Review the credit package to identify potential fraud risks. Review appraisals and alternative value products for conformity to client specified requirements to assess accuracy of the property valuation. Confirm all data discrepancies and note the source document(s) and circumstance(s) when appending comments. Document all compensating factors and mitigating attributes of the loan. Work loan assignments based on the instructions from the project Team Lead/Business Analyst. Adhere to minimum production requirements as communicated from the project Team Lead. Monitor all communication channels (Outlook, Teams, Phone) for company updates/announcements and requests from your colleagues/Team Lead. Knowledge and Experience 3+ years underwriting residential mortgage loans with demonstrable proficiency in understanding underwriting guidelines. Proven working knowledge in products such as, Jumbo Prime, Non-Prime, Conforming, Non-QM, and DSCR. Strong background in the use of computer programs used to review mortgage loans and standard knowledge of Microsoft Office product suite.
