Overview
As a Microsoft Datacenter Engineering Design Manager , you will report directly to the Sub-Regional Design Program Manager, assigned to manage the engineering scope, schedule, and budget for greenfield, brownfield and retrofit engineering / design projects through all stages of the project from site due diligence, design and construction as assigned in Vaasa, Finland and in other EMEA locations as required. Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a CO+I Datacenter Engineering Design Manager , you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform. Responsibilities
Manage internal and external resources to deliver land technical due diligence, construction permitting, building shell and core engineering and design, power, cooling, telecommunications, and controls infrastructure aligned to Microsoft's datacenter capacity roadmap. Support engineering procurement strategies, contract negotiations, and scope management to achieve business objectives and maximize project value. Provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and overall leadership for our datacenter architectural and engineering designs. Oversee the delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete Datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes, schedules, and budgets of the projects, and manage the design deliverables of MS consultants (architects, engineers, and designers). Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate design, permitting, constructability, and technical delivery risks, driving timely resolution of complex cross-functional issues to support successful project execution. Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned, standardization, and the adoption of best practices across projects, regions, and engineering disciplines. Engage with key MS stakeholder groups within Microsoft as well as outside vendors who specialize in datacenter architecture and engineering.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Design Management, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Extensive experience delivering engineering and/or construction infrastructure projects, including large-scale, complex infrastructure environments. Proven experience serving as a lead engineer, lead architect, design manager, or project manager on large-scale, complex infrastructure projects. Significant experience leading cross-functional and/or cross-team projects, including collaboration across technical and non-technical stakeholder groups.
Preferred Qualifications
Chartered Engineer, Professional Engineer, Project Management certification, Registered Architect, or equivalent professional accreditation. Experience in commercial and industrial
