About this role
We are looking for an experienced Engine Programmer with deep 3D rendering expertise to join the Clash Royale team in our Shanghai studio. You will work across rendering, engine systems, performance, and game features to help evolve Clash Royale for years to come. This is a hands-on role for someone who can move comfortably between low-level graphics problems and the practical needs of a live game: shaping robust engine solutions, partnering closely with artists and designers, and turning creative ideas into polished experiences that run beautifully on a broad range of mobile devices. We value programmers who take ownership, make pragmatic decisions, and focus on real impact for players and the team. Whether improving the rendering architecture, solving a difficult performance bottleneck, or building a feature together with other disciplines, you will have the freedom and responsibility to find the right solution. If you think that describes you, then we’d love to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
Own and evolve rendering systems and 3D graphics features in Clash Royale and Supercell's proprietary C++ engine. Work closely with artists, designers, and other programmers to turn visual and gameplay ambitions into performant, production-ready features. Design and implement systems across the rendering pipeline, such as materials and shaders, lighting, shadows, post-processing, visibility, batching, animation integration, and asset workflows. Profile and optimize CPU, GPU, memory, loading, and frame-time performance across a wide range of iOS and Android devices. Diagnose complex visual, performance, and platform-specific issues, then deliver solutions that are reliable in a large live codebase. Improve engine architecture, tools, and workflows so the team can iterate faster and create content with confidence. Balance long-term technical direction with the day-to-day needs of an evolving live game, improving systems incrementally without slowing down feature development. Contribute beyond rendering when needed, acting as a versatile problem solver and a strong teammate. What You Have Strong professional experience with modern C++ in game or engine development. Deep practical knowledge of real-time 3D rendering, GPU pipelines, shaders, graphics debugging, and performance analysis. A strong understanding of game-engine architecture and the interaction between rendering, assets, memory, threading, gameplay, and platform layers. Experience shipping and optimizing high-quality game features, not only developing isolated engine technology. Experience working in a large, established codebase and improving it safely and pragmatically over time. A solid understanding of mobile hardware and platform constraints, including CPU/GPU budgets, memory, bandwidth, battery, and device fragmentation. The ability to independently identify problems, explore trade-offs, and carry solutions from design through implementation, validation, and production. Effective cross-discipline communication skills and a genuine interest in collaborating with artists and designers. Adaptability, good judgment, and a team-first mindset. We believe making games is a team sport. A self-starter approach to AI-assisted development: you experiment with modern tools, apply them where they add meaningful leverage, and use sound engineering judgment and appropriate guardrails. Would Be Nice if You Also Have Experience with proprietary or custom game engines. Experience with mobile graphics APIs such as Metal, Vulkan, or OpenGL ES, or comparable experience with Direct3D or console APIs. Strong knowledge in one or more specialist areas such as physically based rendering, lighting and shadows, GPU-driven rendering, visibility and culling, animation rendering, particles and VFX, or rendering tools. Experience building artist-facing tools, asset pipelines, or workflows that improve iteration speed and visual quality. Experience developing and operating a successful live
