Position
Summary As a Sr. Software Engineer at Optum Technology, you will be part of an innovative team dedicated to designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines, advanced backend services, and cloud-native software applications. In this role, you will build robust data ingestion, transformation, and analytical solutions using C#/.NET and SQL across Microsoft Azure and AWS platforms. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate cutting-edge technological advancements and model capabilities into scalable, production-ready healthcare solutions, embedding ethical standards, performance optimization, and governance throughout the engineering lifecycle. You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deploy advanced technological solutions and model capabilities to address complex business challenges with an emphasis on responsible and ethical standards Collaborate with research, engineering, and product teams to translate cutting-edge advancements into scalable, production-ready capabilities that can be reused across the enterprise Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, and backend software applications using C# and .NET frameworks Build and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and storage solutions leveraging SQL and cloud platforms (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Synapse, AWS S3, Redshift, Lambda) Develop and manage relational and non-relational databases, implementing efficient SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models to ensure optimal performance, data integrity, and security Develop RESTful APIs and microservices using .NET frameworks to support application and seamless system integration Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps best practices for cloud deployment and system monitoring Evaluate emerging technology trends and leverage enterprise-approved tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvement Uphold data governance, quality, security compliance, and ethical principles throughout the development lifecycle You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear directions on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of professional experience in software engineering and/or data engineering roles 3+ years of experience with C# and .NET Framework / .NET Core for backend application development 3+ years of experience with relational databases, T-SQL, query optimization, and database design 2+ years of hands-on experience designing and deploying cloud solutions using Microsoft Azure (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Synapse, Blob Storage) or AWS (e.g., S3, Redshift, Lambda, Glue) Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, OR 4+ years of equivalent software engineering experience Professional certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) Experience working with Big Data technologies (e.g., Apache Spark, Databricks) Familiarity with containerization and orchestration
