The Lead Data Engineer is responsible for defining, governing, and actively building end-to-end data architecture capabilities supporting LyondellBasell’s Advanced Polymer Solutions (APS) business. This role owns the full data scope across master data, data enablement, dataflow gate management, governance, and consumption, ensuring a back-to-back architecture integrated with APS business and technology processes. The position ensures continuity, clear accountability, and alignment with business priorities while delivering scalable, secure, and business-driven data solutions across ERP platforms, cloud data services, analytics, and AI enablement. This position is both strategic and hands-on, accountable not only for defining enterprise and APS aligned data strategy and architectural guardrails, but primarily for direct contribution in key areas such as data modeling, integration patterns, analytical dataset design, and cloud data platform implementation. Operating in a fast moving, agile environment, the role partners closely with technology and business leaders to turn data into a competitive advantage, drawing inspiration from modern, product centric and customer oriented (B2C style) data practices. A Day in the Life
The Lead Data Engineer serves as the primary owner of APS data architecture and is responsible for translating business requirements into executable data solutions. This role is expected to operate with a high degree of hands on involvement. The Lead Data Engineer is part of the digital technology organization. The individual will work with the APS Digital Transformation Panel to implement end-to-end data architecture, data strategy, and governance. This role will leverage enterprise data management and governance practices as established by the Enterprise Data & Architecture organization. Their focus will remain on prioritizing, sequencing, and executing initiatives with close partnership with the APS organization. The Engineer will also have primary responsibility for ensuring our application and engineering teams have the necessary information and guidance to implement end to end data solutions. The architect is a champion for data analysis and logical data modeling and provides technical mentoring to other DT staff to support skills development. Key responsibilities include: • Hands-On expertise in Data Engineer principles, methods, and tools; deep understanding of data management including integrations, storage, Master Data Management, and analytics. • Deep understanding of how APS business processes and operations are supported by data, and how future process changes impact data usage. • Ability to translate APS business requirements into logical, physical, and analytical data architecture designs. • Maximize enterprise and APS data assets by reducing redundancy, enabling secure accessibility, and promoting shared understanding through metadata management. • Develop technical architecture across APS business processes, ERP systems, data flows, and analytics consumption patterns. • Collaborate closely with APS
