HVAC Truck Based Serviceman (Union) Johnson Controls is seeking skilled HVAC Servicemen to support healthcare, manufacturing, higher education, K12, and commercial real estate customers. In this field-based role, you will commission, service, and maintain advanced commercial HVAC equipment while helping customers improve comfort, reliability, and building efficiency. As a trusted advisor, you will work directly with customers to assess service needs, recommend solutions, and support dependable facility performance.
Role
Overview You will perform hands-on service work on commercial heating and cooling systems, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and help customers solve building inefficiencies at the time of service. This is a truck-based union role that combines technical service, customer consultation, and practical recommendations that support system performance and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems. Troubleshoot three-phase commercial HVAC equipment, RTUs, heat pumps, fans, and related mechanical systems. Assist Journeymen with the repair and service of centrifugal, absorption, screw, and scroll chillers. Recommend solutions that improve comfort, reliability, efficiency, and sustainability. Prepare labor and material quotes to support recommended service work and customer decisions. Support rotating weekend, night, and holiday on-call service coverage. Represent Johnson Controls professionally as a trusted advisor at the customer site. Stay close to the work and focus on what matters for the customer by diagnosing issues efficiently, understanding the building application, and removing obstacles to getting the system back online. Improve every day through candor and problem-solving by documenting findings clearly, sharing practical recommendations, and turning field observations into better outcomes. Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of practical working experience in residential, light commercial, or commercial mechanical equipment. Two (2) years of commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry. Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance and repair of three-phase commercial HVAC equipment, RTUs, heat pumps, and fans. EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification. Valid driver's license. Good verbal and written communication skills. Adherence to the company Safety Program. Willingness to join the UA of Plumbers and Pipefitters. Ability to satisfactorily pass an examination to identify your skills and knowledge, if required.
Nice to Have
Five (5) years of commercial and/or industrial work experience in the HVAC industry. Experience with pumps, VFDs, and Air Handling Units. Experience assisting with centrifugal, absorption, screw, and scroll chiller service. Computer-savvy with the ability to use digital tools in a field service environment.
