Standard Job Description Primary responsibilities: • Develop and support communications strategies for enterprise strategic initiatives and thought leadership plans, including 21st Century Security priorities. • Support enterprise corporate media relations efforts and coordination of priority media relations activities across Business Areas. • Develop communications materials for key executives to include, speeches, remarks, op-eds, talking points, briefing materials, etc. • Build and maintain relationships with and pitch story ideas to key journalists. • Serve as media spokesperson as necessary. • Support key corporate and public affairs communications processes • Effectively collaborate with internal business partners, Executive Communications, Investor Relations, Finance, Legal, Government Affairs, Communications and other colleagues across Enterprise Operations and Business Areas on key activities to align strategy and ensure desired communications outcomes. • Provide insightful, informed and strategic communications counsel to executives. • Manage multiple workstreams and projects simultaneously. Must live within close proximity of major LM facility. Bethesda location preferred. Ability to Travel when needed Develops, plans, and conducts public relations and goodwill programs to improve and support company business objectives with the public, industry, stockholders, and/or employees. Plans, prepares, writes and disseminates information utilizing print and broadcast media; magazines, speeches, scripts, intranet and Internet website. Submits photographs; assigns and/or approves artwork. May represent the company at press conferences, briefings and presentations on company issues. May participate and support advertising campaigns, and/or edit material for organization publications. May supervise work of outside consultants. Basic Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 10 years of professional experience; or 8 years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree. • Significant communications experience in aerospace/defense, publicly traded company, government or B2G public relations or communications agency / consultancy, preferred. • Communications experience including media relations, corporate communications, executive communications, thought leadership and communications strategy and message development. • Ability to travel as required. Desired Skills • Significant media relations experience. • Strong communications planning and project management experience. • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across levels, teams and functions. • Professional communications experience and strong interest in domestic and international political and policy dynamics and their implications for media and messaging strategy. • Experience and interest in financial communications. • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and compellingly. • Motivated self-starter who works effectively under competing priorities and tight deadlines. • Innovative and creative thinker, with a strong work ethic, excellent judgement, positive attitude and excellent prioritization and time management skills.
