Job Description
AECOM is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer IV based in Roanoke, Virginia to expand our team. This hybrid position offers the opportunity to work on high-profile mechanical engineering projects within the Building and Places sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in facilities-related mechanical engineering and HVAC design, with a proven track record in delivering high-quality designs and project completions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques for the design and construction of HVAC systems and equipment using building information modeling Coordinate HVAC systems with other disciplines to produce comprehensive building system designs, perform construction inspection and observation for active projects, and generate detailed reports Review and revise engineering standards, participate in proposal development, project planning, and staffing, and develop system narratives and technical documentation Utilize your strong skills in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit for mechanical system coordination with Plumbing Engineers, Fire Protection Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Architects, and other design professionals Interact effectively with diverse market types, clients, and subcontractors Review and edit technical specifications, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards, leading quality control of design calculations and drawings, and providing input on engineering budgets and schedules to meet project requirements Independently manage multiple projects from concept through construction administration, commissioning, and post-occupancy phases Perform energy calculations Mentor junior staff Assist in proposal preparation and maintain client relationships Utilize your strong commitment to technical excellence, problem-solving, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field + 6 years of relevant experience in mechanical building systems design or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education Registered Professional Engineer Due to the nature of the role, must be a United States Citizen Preferred Qualifications: Capable of obtaining a Top Secret Level Clearance with the US Government 8+ years of experience Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and sustainable design practices is important The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in technical engineering software and a thorough understanding of mechanical system design for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects Experience with plumbing would be a plus
