Job Overview
The Executive Development Program provides recent graduates with valuable hands-on experience while preparing them for a career at Macy's. Through a combination of structured training, real-world business exposure, and meaningful project work, participants become integral members of a collaborative, performance-driven team that encourages innovation and the sharing of new ideas. As part of the Assortment Planning team, you will help drive sales, margin, inventory productivity, turn, and business growth through assortment optimization and data-driven decision-making. You will analyze product performance, customer demand, vendor performance, and channel trends to help ensure the right products are available in the right locations and quantities. By partnering closely with Merchants and cross-functional teams, you will support the development of assortment strategies that maximize profitability, meet customer needs, and enhance the shopping experience across both stores and e-commerce channels. Success in this role requires strong analytical and business acumen, a solid understanding of merchandising concepts, and the ability to collaborate effectively to drive results. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be placed into an Assistant-level position. The Executive Development Program is based in Macy's New York City corporate offices, with start dates offered throughout the year based on business needs.
What You Will Do
Receive professional development through a combination of hands-on learning, structured workshops, and collaborative projects Build relationships with business leaders and team colleagues Contribute to the development of assortment plans which support overall business and promotional strategies. Collaborate with Merchants to ensure channel plans support top-line strategic and financial objectives. Support the Assortment team in developing assortment plans that support channel needs and leverage opportunities. Analyze in-season product performance, focused on channel demand; class/category performance, style performance, and major marketing performance. Analyze assortment effectiveness by channel and react to business opportunities. Monitor vendor performance and make recommendations to Director Assortment to maximize profitability. Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality . Qualifications and Competencies Senior pursuing a bachelor's degree with a strong academic record; minimum 3.0 GPA preferred. All majors will be considered. Strong retail math, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial and business performance metrics, identify trends, evaluate opportunities, and translate data into actionable business recommendations. Advanced Excel proficiency, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, reporting, and data analysis, with the ability to leverage data and business systems to support decision-making. Understanding of retail math concepts, including sales, margin, markup, inventory productivity, turn, profitability analysis, merchandising, and assortment planning. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation, storytelling, influencing, and relationship-building abilities. Ability to read, interpret, and analyze reports and other business documents. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while collaborating effectively with
