Linux Kernel & Virtualization Engineer THE ROLE: We are seek ing an engineer to jo in our team that will thrive in a fast-paced work environment, using effective communication, problem-solving and prioritization skills. THE PERSON: This AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) team is looking for a Linux Software Engineer who can work with OS partners to enable Linux distros on AMD EPYC CPUs and Instinct GPUs. Team player who collaborates well with other AMD engineering teams to resolve AMD specific functional and performance issues involving AMD CPUs/GPUs and Linux distros. The desired candidat e shou ld be willing to take ownership on behalf of AMD and work with the OS partner and AMD internal teams to enable timely resolution. You will be involved in all areas that impact the team including performance, automation, and development . The right candidate will be informed on the latest trends and become prepared to give consultative direction to senior management . KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: A powerful desire to learn new skills and understand new features as they are added Proven record of accomplishment within and across groups. Effective communication skills Responsible for exploring opportunities to improve our produc t s and/or our processes Work closely with other team members to understand design architecture and to propose solutions to improve and enhance product quality and feature readiness. Work hands-on within a multi-machine lab environment to deploy software, reproduce issues, execute validation plans, analyze results, and drive root-cause investigations across interconnected systems. Coordinate the investigation, debug, and resolution of complex technical issues, driving effective cross-functional collaboration through root-cause identification and corrective action. Analyze incomplete or ambiguous information, apply sound technical judgment, and make data-driven recommendations to advance program and product objectives.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Exposure to server systems architecture Linux kernel and virtualization (KVM) debugging skills Linux feature backporting and upstreaming experience a plus Experience running and analyzing server system benchmarks Basic programming skills in Python, C, or C++ Ability or desire to use AI tools to maximize productivity Experience working effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed engineering organization with geographically distributed teams Understanding of server platform architecture and the interaction between hardware, firmware, operating systems, virtualization, and application software Demonstrated ability to deliver complex technical solutions through collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering or equivalent LOCATION: Santa Clara, CA This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. #LI-LM1 #LI-HYBRID Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance .
