AON is looking for a Special Risk Assistant Vice President (Major Hubs - Chicago, Wisconsin, NY, Irvine, LA) The Special Risk Assistant Vice President is a senior client-facing role responsible for leading the delivery of Special Risk brokerage and consulting services to large market clients. This position combines people leadership, client relationship management, technical expertise, and financial accountability. The Special Risk AVP will mentor, train, and manage team members, ensuring high-quality work product and effective career development within the practice. The role oversees day‑to‑day client service delivery, including project management, financial projections, stewardship reporting, and other key deliverables. This individual will cultivate strong client relationships, with a focus on Special Risk solutions (including BTA, Student, CMPs and related programs), and will act as a strategic advisor on plan design, market strategy, and risk financing options. In addition, the Special Risk AVP provides technical leadership within the practice, with responsibility for revenue generation and profitability. The role actively identifies cross‑selling opportunities with other Aon practices, drives achievement of billable recovery goals, and ensures adherence to all internal audit, compliance, and quality standards. Key responsibilities include: Providing brokerage and consulting services, guidance, and strategic direction to large market clients across domestic and multinational programs. Managing day‑to‑day client needs, coordinating the client service team, overseeing timelines, and responding promptly to client inquiries. Leading, mentoring, and training junior colleagues; overseeing workflow, quality review, and professional development. Managing projects and deliverables such as financial projections, new business, stewardship reports, renewal strategies, and other client presentations. Demonstrating strong technical expertise in domestic and multinational BTA plan design, rate analysis and pricing strategy, RFP development and evaluation, carrier negotiations, stewardship report preparation, benchmarking, travel assistance providers, client financial analysis and reporting, and carrier contract review. Building and maintaining effective relationships with clients, carriers, and internal stakeholders, and serving as a primary point of contact for Special Risk matters. Developing and executing cross‑selling strategies with other Aon practices to expand the scope of services and meet revenue and profitability targets. Ensuring compliance with all internal audit requirements, documentation standards, and billable recovery expectations. The Special Risk Assistant Vice President reports to the Local Practice Leader. Required Knowledge & Experience 5+ years of experience in a consulting firm, professional services firm, or insurance carrier. Proven project management and analytical skills, with the ability to drive initiatives from concept through execution. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation and facilitation abilities. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced, time‑sensitive environment. Advanced knowledge of Global Business Travel Accident and Special Risk underwriting, including product development experience. Demonstrated people management experience, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management. New business development and client-facing experience, including the ability to build and maintain executive-level relationships. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook). Preferred Knowledge & Experience Emergency Travel Assistance product and market knowledge.
