Job Description
Join AECOM’s Melbourne Ground Engineering and Tunnelling Team to advance your technical and consulting skills. As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will support the delivery of geotechnical investigations, analysis, and design solutions as part of a collaborative and high-performing team of Engineers, Engineering Geologists, and Hydrogeologists.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical input and oversight from investigation through to design and construction phases. Support geotechnical analysis and design for foundations, slope stability, earthworks, pavements, and other structures. Prepare Geotechnical Interpretive Reports, including provision of geotechnical design parameters. Lead, plan, coordinate, and supervise geotechnical site investigations (drilling, sampling, in-situ testing). Manage soil and rock sample collection, laboratory testing programs, and factual reporting. Ensure compliance with relevant standards, guidelines, and safety procedures. Assist in bid preparation, scope development, and preliminary cost estimation. Mentor junior staff and support collaborative project delivery.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must have experience that includes carrying out and leading geotechnical investigations, preparing Geotechnical Interpretive Reports, and some experience in geotechnical analysis and design. You will be motivated to build your technical capability and to work collaboratively in teams, both in the office and in the field. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering or geological equivalent. The qualities that help you thrive 6–8 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering, with demonstrated capability in both geotechnical site investigations and geotechnical analysis and design. Proven ability to deliver technical analysis and design as well as manage and interpret geotechnical investigations. Proficiency with geotechnical software (OpenGround/gINT, Rocscience, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W, Leapfrog or similar). Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams. Current Class C driver’s licence. Willingness to undertake fieldwork and travel.
