Position Overview
The Material Planner is responsible for executing cost‑effective material plans to support plant production and customer service requirements. This role manages a defined portfolio of raw and packaging materials, ensuring timely replenishment, accurate inventory levels, and alignment with manufacturing schedules. The position leverages SAP MRP to plan orders, maintain safety stock and reorder parameters, and proactively identify and resolve material shortages. It works cross‑functionally with Supply Planning, Procurement, Operations, and Quality to ensure continuity of supply while meeting inventory and cost targets. The role also supports supplier performance monitoring, manages non‑conformance and return‑to‑vendor processes, maintains master data accuracy, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives to optimize material availability and reduce waste.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Materials Planning Execution & Inventory Management
Execute material planning responsibilities for an assigned portfolio of raw and packaging materials Create and manage material plans using SAP MRP to support plant production schedules Maintain and review MRP parameters, including safety stock and reorder points Monitor inventory levels to balance service, cost, and inventory targets Manage material shortages and coordinate recovery actions with plant teams and Procurement Support plant DDS routines by preparing and communicating material availability, risks, and recovery actions
Supplier & Procurement Coordination
Collaborate with Procurement on supplier performance, delivery issues, and recovery actions Monitor on-time delivery and perfect purchase line performance Support return-to-vendor (RTV) processes and supplier corrective actions Coordinate material receipt timing and support plant receiving schedule
Process Execution, Data Management & Continuous Improvement
Maintain accurate material master data and planning parameters Audit and update MRP settings to ensure optimal lead times and inventory levels Support component transitions, engineering changes, and product launches to prevent obsolescence Ensure accurate tracking and mitigation of SLOB and at-risk inventory Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to planning execution and inventory performance
Participate in cross ‑ functional meetings to support material planning activities and stay aligned on plant priorities Assist in material readiness for product launches, changes, and commercialization activities Support basic import and documentation processes for internationally sourced materials Help maintain accurate records and data to support planning and inventory processes
Contribute ideas to improve day ‑ to ‑ day planning execution and team efficiency
• Other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field (or in progress) 0–2 years of experience in supply chain, operations, or related field Basic understanding of supply chain or manufacturing environments Strong communication skills and willingness to learn in a team environment Ability to collaborate across functions (Supply Planning, Procurement, Operations) Proactive approach to problem solving and asking questions Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel required) Strong attention to detail and data accuracy Good organizational and time management skills Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
APICS CPIM (in progress or interest in pursuing) Exposure to planning, inventory, or data analysis through internships or coursework preferred Internship or co op experience in supply chain, planning, or manufacturing Exposure to SAP or other planning systems Interest in continuous improvement and process optimization Basic analytical skills with ability to interpret data
