A Day in the Life Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Performs installation, maintenance, and repairs on line manufacturing or plant equipment. Locates and diagnoses failures, replaces defective components, and performs basic troubleshooting using standard electronic equipment, detailed drawings, diagrams, sketches, specifications, prints, manuals, and verbal and/or written instructions. Maintains appropriate maintenance and repair logs. Uses a variety of hand, power, and test tools and equipment. May redesign optical, vacuum, electrical, electronic, or mechanical systems for incorporation on existing manufacturing equipment. May estimate labor and equipment costs and prepare requisitions as required. TECHNICIAN SUPPORT CAREER STREAM:  Provides technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement or product development. Uses schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment or systems. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data using established formulae and procedures, and performs detailed mathematical calculations. For higher levels, may suggest and/or make improvements to optimize work processes. DIFFERENTIATING FACTORS Autonomy:  Recognized as expert in technical area, with high degree of initiative, who trains, delegates and reviews the work of lower level employees and may be responsible for leading daily operations of a work unit. Ensures project plans and budgets are met Recommends improvements to test processes and procedures across teams. Organizational Impact:  Performs most complex technical activities and identifies, evaluates, and implements continuous improvements to optimize work processes. Work consists of technical tasks of the highest complexity. Innovation and Complexity:  Technical problems faced are general and may require understanding of broader sets of issues and other job areas, but typically are not complex. Responsible for working with supervisor to implement adjustments or enhancements in systems and processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness of job area and/or functions. Communication and Influence:  Communicates typically with internal contacts, including participating in benchmarking other business units. Obtains and provides technical information on matters of significant importance to one or more job areas. Leadership and Talent Management:  May act as a team leader or coach and assistant to the supervisor / manager. May delegate tasks to other team members and be responsible for the review of work product and processes. Does not have formal management responsibilities, but provides input to people management decisions in this area. Required Knowledge and Experience:  Requires expert knowledge within a specific discipline typically gained through extensive work experience and/or education.
