What We're Looking For
We are seeking a curious, hands-on Software QA Engineer (Level 1) to join our smart camera engineering team. In this role, you will help ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of our next-generation intelligent vision platforms. We are looking for an inquisitive troubleshooter with a strong "creator instinct" who is excited about testing both software and physical hardware. Rather than manually writing repetitive test cases or boilerplate scripts, we actively encourage you to leverage agentic AI tools to accelerate test case generation, scripting, and log analysis, allowing you to focus your energy on exploratory testing, edge cases, and finding critical system bottlenecks. What We Do: We design and build intelligent, edge-based smart cameras featuring on-board Neural Processing Units (NPUs) that run hardware-accelerated image processing and vision algorithms. Your Role & Responsibilities: System Testing: Execute functional, regression, and system-level tests on physical smart camera hardware and embedded Linux platforms. Test Automation: Write and maintain test helper scripts using Python and Bash to automate test execution and parse system logs. Log & System Analysis: Analyze system logs (journalctl, systemd status) and hardware outputs to isolate issues and document clear, reproducible bug reports. AI-Assisted Testing: Actively use agentic AI tools to brainstorm test scenarios, write automated test code, and accelerate log analysis. Collaborative Debugging: Partner closely with firmware and software developers to reproduce bugs, verify fixes, and understand platform bring-up issues. Core Requirements: Passion for Quality: A strong analytical mindset with a natural curiosity to find out "how things break." Linux Foundations: Comfortable navigating embedded Linux systems via the command line and basic familiarity with system management tools like systemd. Scripting Basics: Basic programming foundation in Python and Bash for automating simple tasks or parsing files. Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent logical reasoning and a proactive attitude toward isolating complex issues. Desirable Bonuses (Nice-to-Have): Familiarity with camera testing, image/video streaming, or exposure to testing NPU-based/machine learning features. Basic understanding of hardware interfaces, reading schematics, or using simple debug tools. Familiarity with the Yocto Project (e.g., how to flash an image to a device). Incentive Compensation: In addition to base pay, Zebra offers this role the opportunity to earn a performance-based annual cash incentive, at a target equal to 5% of base pay, in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan. Job Posting Statement: To protect candidates from falling victim to online fraudulent activity involving fake job postings and employment offers, please be aware our recruiters will always connect with you via @zebra.com email accounts. Applications are only accepted through our applicant tracking system and only accept personal identifying information through that system.
