Role
Summary As a Principal Mechatronics Engineer, you will join our global Innovation team focused on rapidly bringing new products to market. Based in Budapest, you will work with global project teams, providing expertise in mechatronic system design, systems architecture development, firmware development, signal processing, controller programming, and system cybersecurity. Your role will encompass research, ideation, proof of concept, and proof of value demonstrations, paving the way for new product development and integrated solutions. Collaborating closely with internal technical teams, engineering units, and the product management team, you will align innovation priorities and drive the development of advanced mechatronics technologies.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership on complex projects involving mechatronics and digital solutions, applying engineering principles to devise innovative solutions. Lead concept development projects by: Generating innovative product or solution concepts using systematic problem-solving and design thinking. - Recommending buy / build / partner approaches for competitive product commercialization. Collaborate with technical specialists and engineering leaders to develop proofs of concept and partner with the product management team for proof-of-value demonstrations. Coordinate and develop global mechatronics platform architectures, leveraging synergies between product platforms to create a unified technology platform for all products. Drive the development of mechatronics technologies, focusing on: Digital solutions and modern drive technologies for intelligent fluid and vacuum pump systems. Digital solutions for competitive actuator products. Modern electronics technologies for pneumatic-driven positioner electronics. Guide external technical teams contracted to support development of key enabling components/features outside Flowserve’s scope of expertise Collaborate with the technology scouting team to monitor industry trends, maintain networks with partners, and explore potential technology collaborations. Propose investment plans to build mechatronics platform capabilities. Partner with the strategic business management team to: Develop detailed project charters and execution plans. Support voice-of-customer activities and evaluate business potential. Develop and maintain an international network with Flowserve teams and external partners, defining and evaluating global buy-build-partner opportunities. Participate in regular reviews with business and technology leaders, providing updates on the innovation funnel. Travel up to 20% as required, primarily to the United States, Germany, and the Netherlands. Required Qualifications and Experience At least Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Master’s degree is preferred. At least 10 years of experience in technology development and innovation, with a strong interest in commercializing advanced technologies. Excellent systems-level understanding across relevant technical disciplines, including electronics, mechanics, physics, and user interfaces. Demonstrated success developing and commercializing new products or solutions that incorporate differentiating technologies. Experience in research and innovation; familiarity with design-thinking methods is preferred. Strong communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions in a
