JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the job is to design automation engineering projects in the area of assignment, e.g., Mechatronic, electrical, electronics, software application . The Sr. Automation Design Engineer reviews and analyzes project requirements, specifications, plan, design and installation. Position is responsible for design of automation equipment to ensure stipulated specifications and requirements are met and delivered within budget and on time. Position supports Lead Engineer of respective areas in design of automation equipment. The ideal candidate possesses strong expertise in electrical system design , control panel design , PLC programming , and automation equipment integration , with hands-on experience supporting manufacturing and industrial automation projects from concept through commissioning. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Electrical & Control System Design Design and develop electrical architectures for automated manufacturing equipment and production systems. Create detailed electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using industry-standard CAD tools. Perform electrical component selection, including: PLCs HMIs Safety controllers Servo drives Industrial sensors Motion control systems Power distribution components Develop safety control systems and machine safety logic in compliance with applicable safety standards. Automation & Programming Develop, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC programs for automation equipment. Support integration of motion control, vision systems, robotics, and other automation technologies. Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks including: EtherCAT TCP/IP Serial Communication (RS232/RS485) Modbus Ethernet-based industrial protocols Support machine commissioning, debugging, validation, and production startup activities. Project Execution Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineers, and Manufacturing teams to achieve project objectives. Review customer requirements and technical specifications to ensure accurate implementation. Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and meeting quality expectations. Support design reviews, risk assessments, and technical problem-solving activities throughout the project lifecycle. Documentation & Compliance Generate and maintain: Electrical schematic packages Bill of Materials (BOM) Panel layouts Installation manuals User manuals Technical documentation Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical, safety, and manufacturing standards. Maintain accurate engineering records and project documentation in project tracking systems. Manufacturing & Supplier Support Provide technical guidance to panel builders, machine assemblers, and suppliers. Support equipment assembly, wiring verification, FAT, SAT, and installation activities. Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, maintainability, and reliability.
Required Qualifications
Education Bachelor's Degree in: Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering with strong Electrical Engineering experience. Technical Expertise Strong working knowledge and practical experience in: Electrical schematic design Control panel design Electrical system architecture PLC programming and troubleshooting
